Welcome to the Truman High School Environmental Club Website!

We would like to introduce our brand new website! This is where we will have all of our upcoming events, pictures, accomplishments, and amazing things that we are doing to help our community, school, etc. Please feel free to look around, travel to all of our different pages, and leave your response on how we're doing!

It only takes one person to make a change in this world... But with the work of the THSEC Team, it's astonishing how much of a difference they have done for not only themselves, but for others in their community and school.

Note from Lars McGee

It is with great pleasure that I'm announcing that, thanks to last Saturday's huge success, we now have enough money to buy a solar panel.  We raised over $1600 ($1550 in cash and checks and a ton of coins that have yet to be counted).  The owner of Exact Solar is coming back to talk to us tomorrow after school during our environmental club meeting and will look for a suitable spot to put the panels and let us know how much $6000 can buy.  It would be great if a lot of people showed up for this.  I would also like to use some of the extra money to purchase a weeping willow tree for Dale Frasier's memorial area and get it into the ground tomorrow.  I want to especially thank the students who came out and helped on Saturday.  Sylvia Rudnicki and Hector Torres were there from start to finish.  Others that helped for significant parts of the day included Sean Brennan, Connor O'Brien and PJ Ngo plus one of their friends from scouts, Priscilla Salinas and her little brother, plus my son Robbie.  Thank you once again.  It exceeded my wildest expectations.

THSEC would like to welcome everyone back from a great summer. We will be posting more during the year.
Thank you!

In memory of Dale Fraiser, the gratified founder of the Greenbelt Overhaul Alliance of Levittown, we are putting memorial trees, a plaque, and a sitting bench on the school property in honor of the amazing works he has done for our neighboring areas. Dale Fraiser, founder of GOAL had passed away during the summer, and will always be missed dearly by everyone who had known him. He was such an amazing man, and you'd be surprised by the fact that he only started GOAL because he was getting to be too old to clean up himself, so he went on to hire people to help him do what he loved to do best.
The trees are already planted, and we will have a memorial gathering to honor Dale sometime in the Spring of 2016.

We have been collecting used shoes to raise money to purchase solar panels for the school district and we are close to having enough money to buy a solar array. In addition, we will be growing and selling sun flowers to raise money for the solar panels. By the end of the year, we also plan to have another of our annual community recycling days. Last year, we did a household hazardous waste collection. We've also done electronic waste in previous years.

If you would like to donate your used shoes to us to help us out, please hit the Contact Us button above and let us know so we can make sure that you know where to bring your old shoes.

Also, if you would like to donate money to us for our solar panels (in which we would be gratified by), hit the Contact Us button above, and we will let you know how to donate to us.

THSEC is participating in a water monitoring workshop run by Silver Lake Nature Center. We had taken a field trip to Silver Lake and also taken a week long camping trip to the Florida Keys in the last couple months.
If you have any pictures from that event, please feel free to contact us on our Contact Us page and let us know so we can make sure that your pictures are put onto the website.

THSEC is starting "Can You Survive at 65?" at Truman High School in Levittown!
We are currently busy working on a campaign called "I can survive 65." This campaign is meant to educate the public about the benefits to the environment of turning the heat down to at least 65 degrees in the winter. We are almost finished with a remake of a rock video where we are taking a karaoke version of the Sammy Hagar song "I can't drive 55," and changed the lyrics to an environmental theme with a chorus of "I can survive 65." There will be public service announcements along with the video about the many benefits of turning the heat down in the winter, and we are hoping to have a day here at Truman where we turn the heat down to 65 while warning everyone to wear an extra layer of clothing.
